General Update

As you can see, there hasn’t been a blog post here in the past couple of weeks. For what it’s worth, I also haven’t been playing Eve, keeping up with my normal mailing lists, or reading all my RSS feeds in that time. In other words, all of my leisure time has been at a premium of late. But, there are some good reasons for this:

First, my roommate and I are preparing to move from our current apartment at the beginning of April. We have been apartment shopping and making preparations for the move over the past couple of weeks, and next week is our actual move date. This move has been anticipated for several months, but no matter how much work is done ahead of time, there is still a lot of work to be done in a short period of time.

Second, the demands of my job situation have been higher than usual, as has the stress level. Paul worked as a tentmaker to support himself in his ministry; likewise my support for operating this website comes entirely from my work as a Unix system administrator. It is good work, but it comes in cycles. We have a high workload at a time when we are short-staffed, which creates a challenging and stressful situation that daily requires additional hours of my time and the best of my mental and physical energy. Sadly this has left little time for leisure.

Third, the high stress level and changes in the weather left me vulnerable to illness, and I have been recovering from a nasty cold. Normally I’m able to kick these things in a couple of days and slide back into my routine, but this one lingered for several days.

Fourth, my brother came into town this past weekend for a welcome visit. Naturally, we spent a lot of time together

There is plenty happening that is competing for my time, but hopefully some of these things will work themselves out shortly. I’ll be able to play Eve again, will get caught up on my RSS feeds, and should be able to make posts on forums and on this blog again after the move this next week. I will be able to respond to some interesting comments that were sent to me on my prior post about the Dominionism conspiracy theory, including some comments from one of the website editors of The Yurica Report - good times. Please keep my roommate and I in prayer that everything goes smoothly during our move and that the weather is cooperative!
