Michael Shermer: No longer skeptical on anthropogenic global warming

4:03 pm | Uncategorized

The latest edition of Michael Shermer’s eSkeptic email newsletter announced that Michael Shermer, who had been deeply skeptical of man’s impact upon global warming, has come to believe the theory after years of arguing against it. His most recent Skeptic article in the June 2006 issue of Scientific American, ‘The Flipping Point‘, explains some of the reason for his reversal. Most notable, however, was this comment:

My attention was piqued on February 8 when 86 leading evangelical Christians–the last cohort I expected to get on the environmental bandwagon–issued the Evangelical Climate Initiative calling for “national legislation requiring sufficient economy-wide reductions” in carbon emissions.

Something is truly wrong with the world when skeptics are following the lead of Evangelical Christians in scientific understanding of climate change.
